Ed Sheeran’s scheduled concerts this weekend at Gillette Stadium have been officially canceled due to an incoming nor’easter storm, adding to a turbulent period for the singer.
A representative for Robert Kraft explained that stadium officials, tour management, and public safety teams have been carefully monitoring the weather forecast throughout the week. Given the severe conditions expected over the weekend, the difficult decision was made to cancel the shows to ensure the safety of fans, staff, and everyone involved.
Refunds are now available through the original point of purchase, with Ticketmaster purchasers to receive automatic refunds.
This cancellation comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding Sheeran’s Loop Tour. The tour has been rocked by the removal of opening act Macklemore, who was dismissed after publicly expressing support for Palestine during previous performances-remarks that reportedly continued despite warnings.
Following his exit from the tour, Macklemore announced a new “Free Palestine” tour, with upcoming dates in Dublin, Paris, and London. Further U.S. dates are expected to be revealed soon.
On September 15, Ed Sheeran released a statement clarifying that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour promoter, not by him personally. Sheeran emphasized that while he chooses not to speak publicly on the conflict, he holds personal views and cares deeply, supporting causes in his own way.
The controversy escalated when Sheeran lost his remaining supporting acts, all of whom publicly sided with Macklemore.
During a recent concert in Philadelphia, Sheeran addressed the situation on stage, expressing his desire for his music and performances to focus on unity and humanity rather than politics. He condemned the violence surrounding the conflict, describing the October 7 attacks in Israel as horrific and the situation in Gaza as catastrophic and unjustifiable.
Sheeran acknowledged the difficult position he has been placed in, stating, “I don’t want to disappoint fans, and I’ve never wanted to be an activist musician, but this has put me in the middle of an important and passionate argument about freedom of speech and the most complex political issue on the planet.”
