During Tuesday’s WNBA Playoff action at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, tensions flared not only on the court but also in the stands, as Sydney Colson was physically restrained to prevent her from confronting a fan.
The 2026 playoffs have already delivered dramatic moments, including the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx’s surprising exit at the hands of the New York Liberty. On Tuesday night, the Indiana Fever faced off against the Las Vegas Aces in Game 2 of their series. After dropping the first game, Indiana bounced back with a 99-89 victory, led by Caitlin Clark’s impressive 27 points and 15 assists.
However, the game was overshadowed by incidents involving players and fans. A’ja Wilson, star of the Aces, was involved in a sideline altercation with a fan. Initially, reports suggested the fan had been ejected, but the Fever later issued a statement clarifying that no fan code violations were found and the individual remained in the arena.
Adding to the evening’s drama, Sydney Colson, who has played for both the Aces and the Fever, confronted a fan during the game and had to be held back. A social media video captured Colson challenging the fan with the words, “Who do you think you are?” before being removed from the situation.
The incidents involving Wilson and Colson cast a shadow over an exciting Game 2 that extended the series to a decisive Game 3 in Las Vegas on Thursday. Indiana aims to eliminate the reigning champions, which would result in two of the top three playoff seeds being knocked out early.
After the game, Wilson spoke out against the fan’s behavior, describing it as “unacceptable.” She explained that while she tries to focus on her game, she was unsettled when the fan approached her aggressively, pointing and stepping toward her. Wilson also apologized to her teammates for receiving a technical foul during the confrontation.
Indiana’s official statement confirmed that after reviewing the situation, arena security found no breach of conduct and deemed the matter resolved.
As the series moves to Las Vegas, all eyes will be on whether the Fever can continue their playoff surge amid the heightened emotions both on and off the court.
