A 14-year-old boy from Wiltshire has been arrested after a violent knife attack on a teenage girl in Cirencester, following her rejection of his request for a date. According to Gloucestershire Police, the boy, described as “obsessed” with the girl, waited near a local store and then attacked her after she turned down his advances.
Security footage captured the distressing scene as the boy, with a knife concealed in his jeans, chased the girl through the aisles of the shop. He then grabbed her forcefully and stabbed her multiple times. A shopkeeper nearby attempted to intervene but was also injured when the boy turned the knife on him.
The girl managed to escape the store and sought help at a neighboring property, prompting a swift police response. Officers arrested the teenager shortly afterward and recovered the knife from his possession.
At Bristol Crown Court on September 21, details emerged that the boy had developed an unhealthy fixation on the girl, even creating fake social media accounts to contact her after she rejected him in December 2025. The attack occurred on March 15, around 11:15 a.m., at Upper Churnside.
In a statement read during the hearing, the victim described the lasting impact of the attack: “I’m scared and nervous anywhere that I go. Even if someone puts their hand up next to me I flinch as I don’t know what they are about to do to me. I know this is as a result of the incident, as I wasn’t like this before.”
She continued, “I was in so much shock after it happened. I didn’t leave the house for a couple of days.
I never thought something like this would ever happen to me, or anyone I know at all.” She also shared ongoing struggles with nightmares and anxiety, saying the experience has severely affected her ability to trust others and left her feeling unsafe in her own community.
Detective Superintendent Ian Fletcher, Head of Serious and Complex Investigations, condemned the attack as a “frenzied attack that took place in broad daylight,” noting the victim was fortunate to have escaped with minor injuries. “We could easily have been looking at a fatal incident if that knife had pierced her anywhere else,” he said.
He expressed hope that the victim will be able to heal and rebuild her life following this traumatic event. The case remains under investigation, with legal proceedings ongoing.
