- ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Star Don Diamont Reveals the Heartbreaking Praise His Father Gave Him Before His Death (parade.com)
Don Diamont, known for his role as Bill Spencer on CBS’s popular soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, recently shared a heartfelt story about how his late father found comfort watching him on screen during his battle with cancer.
The 63-year-old actor opened up to People about the difficult losses he faced in his 20s, when both his father, Albert, and brother, Jack, passed away. Though his dad never got the chance to meet Diamont’s wife and children, the actor took solace in the fact that his father saw him thriving in his acting career.
Diamont explained that during his father’s illness, watching him on a beloved soap opera brought a sense of reassurance. “I felt that I had job security, and my dad was at least there to see that,” he said. “Particularly when he was sick, he would be home, and he could watch the show.”
The actor noted that his father was not one to give praise lightly, which made his approval all the more meaningful. Recalling a poignant moment after a radiation treatment, Diamont shared, “He said, ‘When you started, I didn’t think you were very good.
But now I watch, and you’re really good. You’ve just really learned a lot.’”
That acknowledgment provided comfort to both father and son during a challenging time. Diamont reflected, “It was great to hear him express that. I know that gave him comfort, and then it gave me comfort that I knew that that meant a lot to him.”
Don Diamont’s soap opera career began in 1984 on Days of Our Lives as Carlo Forenza, followed by a long-running role as Brad Carlton on The Young and the Restless starting in 1985. Since 2009, he has captivated audiences as Bill Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful.
