Tamar Braxton is paying tribute to her late brother-in-law, Von Scales, who passed away suddenly on October 1 at the age of 58. Von, who had been managing heart problems in recent years, was married to Tamar’s sister, Trina Braxton. The couple’s 2018 wedding was featured on the family’s reality show, Braxton Family Values, airing on We tv.
In a heartfelt post, Tamar shared a clip of the moment Von proposed to Trina during a sisters’ couples retreat, reflecting on the special bond they shared. “Von ‘Top 5’ – that’s what I called you because that’s exactly what you were.
One of my top five favorite people in this world, and you still are,” she wrote. “You always will be.
I’m going to miss YOU. Your presence.
Your heart. Your strength and how you showed up and protected the people you loved.
You were a man’s man, but underneath all that strength was one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever known.”
Tamar also highlighted Von’s deep devotion to her sister, especially in contrast to Trina’s previous marriage to Gabriel Solis, which was marked by heartbreak, cheating allegations, and family tensions over their 14 years together. “The way you loved my sister-I have never seen anyone love Trina the way you did.
You didn’t just say it; you showed it,” Tamar added. “You covered her.
You protected her. As her sister, there are no words for what it meant to know somebody loved her THAT deeply.
Thank you for loving my sister the way she deserved.”
Trina and Von first met through mutual friends on a blind date. Trina was immediately impressed by his maturity and thoughtful conversation.
In a 2020 interview, she credited their age difference-Von is six years older-and shared how their shared life experience has contributed to the strength of their marriage. “We’ve both been married before, we already have our children.
We both know what we want. We both know what we don’t want.
We’ve lived enough life. We both traveled enough to know exactly what we want and what we’re looking for.
And when you become a certain age, you just don’t have time for the games,” she explained.
Von Scales will be remembered not only for his love of Trina but also for the kindness and strength that left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
