Kelly Hansen, former lead vocalist of Foreigner, has officially embarked on a new chapter in his musical career. The 65-year-old rock veteran has joined hard rock supergroup The Dead Daisies, the band revealed on Monday, October 5.
Hansen will front a revamped lineup currently working on an album slated for release in 2027, followed by an extensive world tour. This transition follows Hansen’s departure from Foreigner earlier this year after a remarkable 20-year tenure, which began in 2005 after Lou Gramm’s exit. Guitarist Luis Maldonado has since taken over lead vocal duties for Foreigner.
Addressing his exit, Hansen emphasized that he was not stepping away from music. “When I left Foreigner after 20 great years, I told everybody I wasn’t ‘retiring’ just moving on to other things,” he said.
“This project gives me the opportunity to stretch out with some new melodies, a new vibe and fresh energy. We’re gonna rock it!”
Fans eager for a preview need not wait until the full album’s release. The Dead Daisies have already dropped “Lift Me Up,” the first single from their upcoming record.
Guitarist Doug Aldrich described the track as starting with a simple guitar riff and heavy groove before evolving into its full melody. Aldrich also expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with Hansen on stage, praising his exceptional vocal range and commanding presence.
The band’s current lineup boasts several hard rock luminaries alongside Hansen and Aldrich. Founding guitarist David Lowy, drummer Tommy Clufetos-known for his work with Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne-and bassist Jimi Crutchley round out the group.
Formed in Sydney in 2012, The Dead Daisies have featured a rotating roster of prominent rock musicians, including Glenn Hughes, John Corabi, Richard Fortus, and others. Hansen steps into the lead singer role previously held by Corabi.
“We’re fired up about the direction The Daisies is taking,” Lowy said. “Kelly has slotted in and it just feels right.”
The band plans to spend the remainder of 2026 recording their new album before launching their 2027 world tour. The tour kicks off on March 4 in Bochum, Germany, and continues through Europe and the UK.
The U.S. leg begins April 30 in Lititz, Pennsylvania, with additional dates in Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and California. The tour will then return to Europe and Scandinavia in September.
“We’ve got a killer record taking shape and looking forward to a big year of touring ahead,” Lowy added. “Bring on 2027!”
