A 23-year-old woman in Roseville, California is in trouble with the law after police discovered 65 allegedly stolen Stanley drinking cups in her vehicle. The cups are valued at nearly $2,500 in total. The incident occurred on January 17, when the woman was stopped by authorities and Stanley merchandise was found overflowing from her car’s passenger seat and trunk.

According to the Roseville Police Department, the suspect was stopped after a report of theft at a retail store on Stanford Ranch Road. Store staff witnessed the woman taking a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying and attempted to stop her, but she refused and loaded her car with the stolen merchandise.

An officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle entering a nearby highway and conducted a traffic stop. A search of the car revealed a total of 65 Stanley products in various sizes and styles, amounting to nearly $2,500 in value.

The unidentified suspect was subsequently arrested for grand theft. Police shared photos of the recovered merchandise, showing dozens of Stanley drinking containers piled on the hood and front bumper of a police car, as well as in the trunk and footwell of the suspect’s vehicle.

Stanley, a brand that has been around since 1913, has gained recent attention on social media for its stainless steel reusable water bottles. The 40-ounce Quencher cup, in particular, has become a popular item with a cult-like following both in the United States and globally.

In light of the brand’s viral popularity, Roseville police cautioned against resorting to criminal activity to acquire Stanley products, stating, “While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits.”
