Tech billionaire Elon Musk attended a conference organized by the European Jewish Association on Monday. Musk, who has faced accusations of posting antisemitic content, claimed during a conversation with Ben Shapiro that he was “naive” about antisemitism despite having many Jewish friends.

Accompanied by Ben Shapiro, Musk visited Auschwitz, the former Nazi death camp in Poland where millions of Jewish people were killed during the Holocaust. The European Jewish Association also held a conference in Krakow, Poland, following the visit.

During the conversation with Shapiro, Musk stated that he was “naive” about antisemitism because the majority of his friends are Jewish. He mentioned having twice as many Jewish friends as non-Jewish friends and claimed to be “Jewish by association.”

Musk, while discussing “pro-Hamas rallies” on “elite college campuses,” expressed his belief that university students should not promote hate. His social media platform, X, has faced criticism for allegedly fostering hate speech since Musk acquired it.

In September, the Anti-Defamation League accused Musk’s platform of promoting “virulent antisemitism.” Musk threatened to sue the organization and described himself as “aspirationally Jewish” during an exchange with Shapiro.

Musk faced condemnation in November after endorsing a post on X that blamed Jewish communities for pushing hate against white people. The post referenced the “great replacement” theory embraced by white nationalists.

As a result, companies like Apple, Disney, and IBM decided to stop advertising on X. Musk later apologized for the posts but told advertisers to “go fuck yourself” at the New York Times DealBook Summit.

In addition to the Auschwitz visit, Musk had previously visited Israel in November. At this time, he has not responded to requests for comment.
