Video footage shared by the Ukrainian military shows four Russian armored vehicles being destroyed during the winter. The front and rear vehicles were targeted, trapping the other two in between. The Wall Street Journal analyzed the footage and concluded that these tactics are typical of how Ukraine is holding off Russia’s advance.

The drone’s-eye-view video shows the first vehicle being struck with an explosion, followed by a strike on the rear vehicle, trapping the two in the middle. The two stranded vehicles attempt to change course but are ultimately destroyed by further strikes.

The footage, shared on December 28, shows the actions of the 30th and 14th Mechanized Brigades near Kupiansk, Ukraine. The Wall Street Journal’s analysis of the raw footage suggests that these tactics are commonly used by the Ukrainian brigades.

The Russian soldiers were attempting to take control of Synkivka, northeast of Kupiansk. The convoy consisted of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles and had to navigate through a minefield. The Russians can be seen scrambling toward a clump of trees, which are also targeted.

The video showcases Ukraine’s effective tactics in holding back Russian forces during the grueling winter campaign. It also reveals how Russia’s own defensive lines, including extensive minefields, hinder their progress.

Despite the assault occurring a month ago, Russian forces have still not been able to advance on Kupiansk, a crucial railway hub. Ukraine’s Ground Forces spokesperson, Volodymyr Fito, stated that while the enemy has improved their tactical position somewhat, they have not made significant territorial gains.

Fito criticized the reckless behavior of the Russian army, which has intensified the use of armored vehicles without achieving substantial progress. The Ukrainian military has successfully repelled ten assaults and denies Russian reports of capturing Tabaivka.
