The head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, General Hossein Salami, responded to President Biden’s remarks regarding a drone attack by an Iran-backed militia. Although Iran claims they do not seek war with America, Salami stated that they will not leave any threats unanswered. He emphasized that while they are not warmongers, they will defend themselves and their glory.
Salami’s comments came after President Biden announced that he has made a decision on how the U.S. will respond to the drone attack that killed three American soldiers and injured over 40 others. However, Biden did not provide any specifics about the planned response, expressing a desire to avoid escalating tensions in the already volatile region.
In a possible attempt to ease tensions, Kata’ib Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia believed to be responsible for the drone attack, announced that it will no longer target the U.S., following requests from Iran and Iraq. This drone strike was the deadliest among over 160 attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East since the Hamas-Israel war began in October.
Iran maintains that it has not directly ordered any attacks on U.S. forces, arguing that the militias it supports in the Middle East, known as the Axis of Resistance, act independently.
