Late on Friday night, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Oklahoma, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter of the earthquake was just northwest of Prague in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, about 50 miles to the east of Oklahoma City.
Although there have been no reports of damage or injuries in the area, officials are currently assessing the situation to gather more information.
According to the USGS website, earthquakes that occur east of the Rocky Mountains, while less frequent than those in the western regions, are typically felt over a much larger area. In fact, earthquakes in the eastern region can be felt over an area more than ten times larger than earthquakes of a similar magnitude on the west coast.
