Elon Musk has reportedly created a culture of peer pressure among his friends and business associates, encouraging them to use drugs with him, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal. The report explains how board members and directors of Musk’s various companies either participate in or enable his substance use in order to stay connected to the billionaire. Musk has been observed taking ketamine through a nasal spray and drinking liquid ecstasy at parties, as reported by eyewitnesses and sources briefed on the matter.
Some current and former directors and board members of Tesla and SpaceX, who have significant financial ties to Musk’s companies, have also used drugs with him. The fear of losing wealth and social status by refusing to partake in drug use has allegedly created an expectation among these associates. However, Musk, his lawyer, and representatives for Tesla and SpaceX have not yet responded to requests for comment on the allegations made in The Journal’s report.
In a previous article by The Journal published on January 6, it was revealed that Musk has used cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms over the years. Following this report, Musk made a post on X stating, “Whatever I’m doing, I should obviously keep doing it!” This report raised concerns about Musk’s security clearance and potentially jeopardized the billions of dollars in government contracts enjoyed by SpaceX as a defense contractor due to regulations surrounding drug use. However, NASA stated that they do not have evidence of noncompliance from SpaceX regarding their workforce regulations on drug and alcohol use.
Musk’s reported drug use has sparked recent controversies. A former director at Tesla chose not to stand for reelection to the company’s board due to concerns about Musk’s drug use and unpredictable behavior. Additionally, during an all-hands meeting at SpaceX, executives were reportedly worried that Musk was on drugs as he arrived late, rambled and slurred his words for about 15 minutes, and ultimately had the meeting taken over by the company’s president.
