Seven individuals have been indicted in connection with the assault on two New York City police officers, which was captured on camera near Times Square. On January 27, the officers were trying to take someone into custody when the assault occurred. Yohenry Brito, who was seen in a video wrestling with the officers, has already been indicted and is currently being held on charges of assault, obstruction, and evidence tampering. Four others who were arrested last week, Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, Wilson Juarez, Kelvin Arocha, and Yorman Reveron, have also been indicted on charges of assault and obstructing governmental administration.

In response to the incident, District Attorney Alvin Bragg expressed his disgust and outrage during a press conference, calling the assault “despicable.” The names of two other indicted individuals have not been released, while Jhoan Boada, who is also accused of assault, has not yet been indicted as the investigation is ongoing.

A total of five asylum-seekers were involved in the attack on the police officers, as captured in surveillance images. However, three additional suspects have not been identified or apprehended. According to the NYPD, the officers were attempting to disperse a disorderly group on West 42nd St. when a physical altercation broke out. The suspects kicked and punched the officers when they tried to place one person in custody before fleeing the scene. The officers sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site.
