The 20th annual Puppy Bowl is just around the corner and it’s set to be the biggest one yet. This year, a record-breaking 131 puppies from 73 animal shelters across 36 states will be playing in the game. Dan Schachner, the “Ruff-eree” of the Puppy Bowl for the past 13 years, joined TMZ Live to share all the details about the adorable pooches and the purpose of the event – finding these shelter dogs their forever homes.

One of the highlights of this year’s Puppy Bowl is Levi the Great Dane, who will be playing in the fourth quarter. Despite being only 3 months old, Levi already weighs a whopping 70 pounds. On the opposite end of the size spectrum, the smallest pup in Puppy Bowl history, Sweatpea, weighing just 1.7 pounds, will be taking the field in the first quarter.

There are some new additions to the Puppy Bowl this year, including Dan’s assistant “Ruff-eree,” Whistle, who is a poodle mix rescue. Additionally, there will be pups taking on various off-the-field jobs such as being part of the cheerleading squad and operating cameras.

What sets the Puppy Bowl apart from other sporting events is its 100% adoption rate. Every single puppy that participates in the Puppy Bowl finds a forever home, thanks to the exposure they receive during the broadcast. The event has been instrumental in raising awareness and helping animal shelters place their rescues with loving families.

Puppy Bowl XX will be aired on Animal Planet and Discovery+ on February 11. Get ready for a cuteness overload!
