Vince Fong Succeeds McCarthy in Congress for Remaining Term

Additional Coverage:

According to ABC News, Vince Fong is expected to secure a victory in the special general election for California’s 20th Congressional District to serve the remainder of the current term.

Fong is set to take over the position left by ex-Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the former House speaker, who lost his role in December 2023 due to opposition from within his own party.

With Fong joining Congress, the Republican’s slight majority in the House will be reinforced. Notably, Fong received endorsements from both McCarthy and Donald Trump.

By approximately 11:20 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, and with 65% of votes counted, Fong was leading with 60% compared to Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux’s 40%.

Fong and Boudreaux are slated to compete once more in the upcoming November general election for the full term.
