High School Graduate Shot in Boston Immediately After Ceremony, Say Police

Additional Coverage:

A recent high school graduate became the victim of a shocking daylight shooting in Boston on Thursday, officials report. The incident occurred shortly before 11:45 a.m. near 200 Pier 4 Boulevard in the Seaport district, where Boston Police discovered an 18-year-old woman with a gunshot injury, said Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox.

The young woman, who has not been identified, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for care. According to Commissioner Cox, she had just left her graduation ceremony at the Boston Collaborative High School in South Boston when the incident occurred. There may have been a preceding altercation, he speculated.

Officials are currently investigating two crime scenes, suggesting the actual shooting might have taken place elsewhere before the victim was found in the Seaport. “The shooting did not happen here or at the graduation,” Cox clarified.

Eyewitness Camilia Pagan from Roxbury, who was present at the graduation, recounted hearing screams and cars hastily departing the scene. Pagan noted an earlier argument, hinting at the subsequent violence. Similarly, visitor Sam Miller experienced the unsettling sounds of panic while at a café, witnessing the aftermath as the injured graduate was attended to by emergency services.

Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden condemned the shooting as a major injustice. Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Hayden lamented the dark cloud cast over what should have been a celebratory day due to this senseless act of violence.

While the authorities have not yet apprehended anyone in connection with the shooting, Cox reassured the public of their safety, suggesting this was not a random act. He also appealed for community support and assistance in the ongoing investigation.

A witness shared with Boston 25’s Joanna Bouras the harrowing moment a woman was extracted from a car and placed on a stretcher amid chaos.

The investigation into the shooting is still active, as officials piece together the events that led to this tragedy.
