Russian military efforts have increasingly employed glide bombs, with some bombsweighing in at over 3,000 pounds, targeting Ukraine. However, the tide seems to be turning as Ukraine benefits from the recent influx of military aid from the United States, including ATACMS and Patriot missiles, bolstering its defense capabilities.

Major Serhiy Pedenko, of Ukraine’s 38th Marine Brigade, in an interview with The Times of London, shared that the support from the U.S. has been instrumental in diminishing the effectiveness of Russian glide bomb attacks on Ukrainian positions along the Dnipro River. Over the recent six months, Russia has launched a relentless attack using these glide bombs, dropped from aircraft such as the Su-34. These bombs, essentially updated Soviet-era bombs fitted with wings and satellite guidance, allow for release from a safe distance, challenging Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, highlighted the significance of these glide bomb attacks in March, identifying them as a crucial advantage for Russia on the battlefield. Yet, the introduction of U.S. military equipment to Ukrainian forces is making a notable difference, allowing Ukraine to carry out strikes against Russian bases in occupied Crimea and defend the southern territories with Patriot anti-aircraft missiles.

Pedenko further detailed the successful defensive strategies employed by Ukrainian forces, including the utilization of drones to counter attacks by Russian armored personnel, and shared insights into the challenges of maintaining control over their positions along the river. Despite facing severe ammunition and equipment shortages that have occasionally hampered operations, Ukrainian forces continue to defy Russian advances, notably maintaining a vital bridgehead on the Dnipro’s far bank since October of the previous year.

In more recent developments, the Ukraine Southern Defense Forces reported on Telegram that they had successfully repelled four Russian assaults near the village on the Dnipro River’s left bank, highlighting the ongoing artillery and air strikes, drone attacks, and reconnaissance efforts staged by the invaders.

Ukrainian soldiers remain resolute in their defense, undertaking all necessary actions to secure their positions amidst the challenging circumstances.
