Suffolk County Police have detained a 64-year-old man from Long Island on charges related to driving under the influence following the catastrophic event.

Emergency services, comprising about 150 firefighters and EMS staff from nine departments and eight ambulance services, responded to the scene. The injured were swiftly attended to, with eight being transported by ambulance and one via airlift to receive medical care.

The vehicle, driven by the accused, allegedly navigated through a parking lot at an accelerated pace before penetrating the building, housing the nail salon among four other establishments within the strip mall. Emergency personnel found the driver partially conscious upon their arrival, leading to his immediate arrest and hospitalization for further evaluation.
