Zelensky Seeks More Long-Range Arms Following Deadly Zaporizhzhia Attack

Additional Coverage:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated his request for additional long-range weaponry following a deadly Russian missile attack that claimed the lives of seven individuals.

The assault on Vilniansk, located near Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, resulted in injuries to another 31 people, according to Ukrainian authorities.

In response to the attack, which resulted in the deaths of two children, President Zelensky emphasized the daily toll such Russian bombardments take on Ukrainian towns and communities. He pointed out, however, that there are strategies to counter these attacks, including “destroying Russian missile sites, employing effective long-range strikes, and expanding our arsenal of modern air defense systems.”

Western nations have previously provided Ukraine with various long-range armaments, such as Scalp missiles from France, Storm Shadow missiles from the UK, and ATACMS from the US, in addition to American-made Patriot air defense systems.

In separate developments, the Kremlin did not respond to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion that he could “end the war” in Ukraine if he were to win the presidency again in November. Trump made this declaration during the recent US presidential debate, where he faced off against President Joe Biden, with both vying to present more robust foreign policy stances.
