Eddie Murphy Refers to Paige Butcher as His ‘Wife’ in Recent Interview

Additional Coverage:

Eddie Murphy made waves by calling his long-term partner, Paige Butcher, his “wife” on two occasions during a recent interview, sparking curiosity about their relationship status.

While reflecting on how Marlon Brando once expressed a desire to meet him, Murphy, aged 63, humorously remarked that he’s no longer in tune with current celebrities. He shared on a June 29 episode of The New York Times’ podcast “The Interview”, “I once knew all the cool, in-demand people, and now I find myself asking my wife, ‘Who’s this?’

She’d tell me, ‘That’s the latest hit.’ I’m completely out of the loop.”

In a further conversation during the podcast, Murphy disclosed the so-called “uncool” TV shows he and Butcher, aged 44, enjoy together, including “Steve Harvey” and “Family Feud,” as well as “The Masked Singer,” revealing, “We, my wife and I, sit down to watch all these singing contests and similar shows.”

Murphy, who has appeared with a ring on a notable finger at several public events, including the premiere of “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and the Golden Globes in recent years, had his engagement to Butcher confirmed by his representative back in September 2018. This came after Butcher was seen with a ring on her left hand, fueling engagement speculation.

The couple, who began their relationship six years after co-starring in “Big Momma’s House 2” in 2006, share two children together, daughter Izzy and son Max, born in May 2016 and November 2018, respectively.

Murphy, a father to eight additional children from previous relationships, has always expressed immense pride in all of his children, describing them as great, normal individuals without a trace of the stereotypical Hollywood child demeanor during a March 2021 interview on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast.
