The families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman have publicly expressed their disapproval of the homage paid to O.J. Simpson during the BET Awards’ “In Memoriam” segment, denouncing it as highly improper.

Ron Goldman’s father, Fred Goldman, expressed his bewilderment to TMZ regarding the tribute to O.J. Simpson, emphasizing that there was nothing commendable about recognizing Simpson in a segment meant to honor Black excellence from the past year.

Fred Goldman called for BET to apologize, questioning the logic behind honoring someone with a history of domestic violence and accusations of murder. He described the tribute as a direct affront to the families of both Nicole and Ron, criticizing BET’s lack of thought and sensitivity in their decision-making process.

Echoing these sentiments, Nicole’s sister Tanya also condemned the tribute while speaking to TMZ, labeling it as inappropriate to celebrate someone with Simpson’s controversial background. Tanya demanded an apology from those responsible for the decision, pointing out that it disrespected every victim of domestic violence, including their family, and suggested that those involved should face consequences.

O.J. Simpson, who was acquitted in the murder trial of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in 1994 but later found liable in a civil trial, continues to be a divisive figure. Despite his acquittal, the civil trial’s verdict and his complicated legacy have left many with mixed feelings about how he should be remembered.

At the BET Awards ceremony, the inclusion of Simpson in the “In Memoriam” segment reportedly led to an awkward silence among the audience, signaling the controversial nature of his legacy. Simpson, who passed away in April at the age of 76 due to prostate cancer, had led a life that evoked strong and varied reactions, capturing the public’s attention until the end.

As of now, BET has not responded to inquiries regarding the tribute to O.J. Simpson during the awards show.
