Kendrick Lamar’s feature of his favorite local burger spot, Tam’s Burgers, in his latest music video “Not Like Us” has brought a significant surge in business to the Compton-based establishment. According to Tam’s Burgers manager Lauro Hernandez and his son Bryan Noe, since the video’s release on July 4, there has been a noticeable increase in customer visits, particularly from tourists, with business booming by 30% to 40%.

In the music video, which has already amassed over 35 million views, Kendrick Lamar, along with the track’s producer Mustard and dancer Storm DeBarge, are seen pulling up to Tam’s in a Lamborghini and spending time inside the restaurant. This scene has especially resonated with fans, many of whom have been ordering the bacon cheeseburger, a favorite of Lamar’s.

Lauro Hernandez has known Kendrick since his teenage years and expressed admiration for the rapper’s loyalty to his roots. He shared that Kendrick has consistently mentioned Tam’s Burgers in his music, including his recent album “Mr.

Morale & the Big Steppers.” Hernandez also noted that the restaurant was closed for a day to accommodate filming for the video, a gesture for which Kendrick ensured the restaurant was compensated by featuring its logo prominently in the video.

This collaboration between the local food joint and the globally recognized artist highlights a burgeoning renaissance in the West Coast, symbolized further by other local celebrities investing in celebratory billboards around Compton.
