A 75-year-old man from New Sharon, Maine, who had gone missing four days earlier after an accident, was discovered in a marshland by a game warden and his dog, according to Maine authorities.

Michael Altmaier had been unaccounted for since the previous Monday when he departed his residence for a meeting in Weld, a remote town in southwestern Maine. His vehicle was subsequently located by park officials at the Mount Blue State Park Scenic Overlook in Weld.

The search operation for Altmaier commenced on Friday morning, and approximately at 3:45 p.m. local time, Game Warden Kayle Hamilton, alongside his K-9 named Ash, found him in a bog roughly three-quarters of a mile from where his vehicle was parked.

Authorities believe that Altmaier had an accident by tumbling over a ledge on Monday, which likely left him disoriented.

Rescue teams including game wardens, volunteers, and a paramedic managed to reach him to perform an initial health assessment and administer first aid. Subsequently, Altmaier was airlifted by a Maine Forest Service helicopter to a nearby ambulance and transported to a hospital where he was treated overnight.

Despite the ordeal, emergency responders reported that Altmaier was found in a remarkably stable condition considering he had been stranded near the bog for several days. Updates on his current health status were not immediately available from the hospital.
