Messi Optimistic About Quick Return Following Copa America Ankle Injury

Lionel Messi stated he is recovering well and hopes to return to playing “hopefully soon,” according to his latest Instagram post on Monday. This update came after Messi injured his right ankle during the Copa America final where Argentina triumphed 1-0 over Colombia in Miami.

In his post, Messi expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and his eagerness to get back on the field. “Copa America is over and the first thing I want to thank everyone for the messages and greetings. I’m doing well, thank God, and hopefully soon I can be on the court again enjoying what I love doing most,” Messi shared.

Details regarding the severity of Messi’s ankle injury remain uncertain, and it’s unclear how long it will keep him away from playing with Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer.

It appears that Messi will likely have to sit out at least two upcoming Inter Miami games this week, one on Wednesday and another on Sunday. He might also miss the MLS All-Star Game scheduled for July 24 in Columbus, Ohio, as well as the first two matches of the Leagues Cup for Inter Miami on July 27 and August 3.

Messi’s injury occurred during the Copa America final, where he was visibly emotional after exiting in the 64th minute. Despite attempting to play in the second half, his ankle injury, which happened when his ankle turned awkwardly in the first half, forced him out of the game. He could only watch from the sidelines as the match went into extra time, and Lautaro Martinez eventually scored the winning goal in the 112th minute.

Expressing jubilation over Argentina’s second consecutive Copa America victory, which follows their 2022 World Cup win, Messi reflected, “We are a team and also a family, a spectacular group. Thanks to everyone who was supporting us, this national team has a lot of present and a lot of future, too. Let’s go Argentina,” Messi concluded.
