Mark your calendars for the exciting second Emmy Awards of 2024. The nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmys were unveiled this past Wednesday by actors Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale in Hollywood. Categories span a broad range including best comedy, drama, limited series, and TV movie.

The ceremony is scheduled for September 15 on ABC at 8 PM EDT/5 PM PDT, marking exactly eight months since the 75th Primetime Emmys aired on Fox — an event delayed by last year’s significant writers’ and actors’ strikes.

This year, FX’s “Shōgun,” based on the novel by James Clavell, leads with an impressive 25 nominations. Following closely is “The Bear,” an FX restaurant dramedy that recently released its third season, with 23 nominations, setting a new record for the most nominations for a comedy series in a single year. Not far behind are Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country” with 21 and 19 nominations, respectively.

In January, “The Bear” and HBO’s “Succession” were tied, each claiming six awards. However, with “Succession” having concluded in spring 2023, the race is wide open for a new best drama frontrunner.

Candidates for awards were shows aired from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, across all categories. While Anthony Anderson was the host for the January show on Fox, ABC still hasn’t announced a host for the upcoming September event. The show will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
