Additional Coverage:

Authorities in New Jersey have arrested a father following the death of his 8-week-old daughter, who perished after being left in a heated vehicle. The incident occurred in Lakewood Township at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday, where the baby was found in cardiac arrest and subsequently declared deceased on the spot.

Officials said the child was alone in the vehicle for a considerable time. They attribute her death to the prolonged exposure to the intense heat within the car. On this day, the heat index in Lakewood Township reached a scorching 107 degrees.

The father, identified as 28-year-old Avraham Chaitovsky, faces charges of endangering a child’s welfare. The case remains under active investigation, with the possibility of additional charges, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

This year alone, at least 11 children in the U.S. have died from heat exposure in vehicles, reports KidsAndCars.org. The organization highlights that since 1990, over 1,000 children have died in similar incidents, with the majority being toddlers three years old or younger.
