Remains Believed to Be Missing College Student Discovered in Texas, Police Say

Additional Coverage:

Authorities have announced that human remains found at a wastewater facility in Texas are likely those of Caleb Harris, a college student who had been missing. City employees discovered the remains last month while working at a lift station in Corpus Christi and promptly alerted the police.

The Corpus Christi Police Department noted that the remains showed no clear indicators of foul play but had been sent to the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office for further evaluation due to their severely decomposed state. The office was unable to determine an identity or cause of death.

To assist with identification, DNA samples were compared with those of Harris’ parents at the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification. The results indicated a high probability that the remains were those of Harris, comparing the likelihood of them belonging to a biological child of his parents versus an unrelated Caucasian individual.

The family of Caleb Harris, who was a 21-year-old student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, expressed their sorrow upon hearing the news, thanking the community for their support during this challenging period.

Harris was reported missing in early March after failing to return from walking his dog. Though his dog came back, Harris did not, leaving behind personal items like his keys, wallet, and car, though his phone was taken but later turned off.

In the ongoing investigation into his disappearance, police executed numerous digital search warrants and analyzed extensive amounts of data. The case remains open as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding Harris’ death.
