Elon Musk Ridicules Microsoft for Worldwide IT Failure

Additional Coverage:

Elon Musk recently made light of a widespread IT outage that affected Microsoft, sharing a humorous meme about the incident on the social media platform X. The meme humorously noted how, amidst widespread failures, one unspecified app continued to function.

Musk added a laughing emoji to his post, amplifying the jest. The disruption impacted industries such as aviation, financial services, retail, and healthcare following a report of issues with Microsoft’s online services.

The problems were traced back to a glitch in a cybersecurity tool from CrowdStrike.

Some users of Windows were greeted with the dreaded “blue screen of death,” preventing access to their systems. Musk, in another post, playfully enhanced his previous critique of Microsoft by resharing his 2021 remark where he compared Microsoft to “Macrohard.”

Cybersecurity specialist James Bore of Bores Group mentioned to Business Insider that the disruptions seemed to originate from a faulty CrowdStrike tool named Falcon, which could not be resolved automatically and needed a manual reboot.

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz addressed the situation on X, clarifying that the malfunction was related to a defective content update for Windows systems, emphasizing that it was neither a cyberattack nor a security compromise. Kurtz assured that the problem was pinpointed, contained, and rectified. Microsoft, on the other hand, has yet to make a statement regarding the incident.
