Postal Worker Fatally Shot in Chicago Neighborhood

Additional Coverage:

Chicago law enforcement is actively searching for a suspect involved in the fatal shooting of a postal worker in the West Pullman neighborhood on Friday morning.

Authorities arrived at the scene on the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue around 11:30 CDT following reports of a shooting. An unidentified assailain reportedly approached the 48-year-old female postal worker and fired several shots at her before escaping westward on 121st Street.

Emergency services transported the critically injured woman to Christ Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.

In response to the incident, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has announced a reward of up to $250,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

Locals in West Pullman spoke highly of the victim, though her name has not been released. “All the neighbors have been talking to me about her all day,” said Woodrow Davis, a local resident.

“They say they had been giving her water all day. She really was a good person.”

The case is currently under investigation by Area Two detectives, and as of now, no arrests have been made.

The incident recalls a similar case in Shreveport, La., where another postal worker, 52-year-old Antonio Williams, was shot multiple times while delivering mail in June. He later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The case concluded with the arrest of 32-year-old Michael Gentry, who is currently being held in Shreveport City Jail on a $250,000 bond.
