In a nail-biting match at London’s O2 Arena, Joel Embiid delivered an impressive performance to edge Team USA ahead with a 101-100 victory over South Sudan this Saturday.

Starting off strong, Team USA saw a dynamic opening, highlighted by Embiid’s coordinated plays with LeBron James. Embiid was notably active, making an impact with multiple rebounds and clear baskets despite South Sudan’s Wenyen Gabriel knocking down several three-pointers.

However, Team USA’s second team fell short as South Sudan built a significant 37-28 lead, thanks to solid plays from Carlik Jones and former Sixer Marial Shayok. Despite these efforts, Embiid and the first team narrowed the lead before halftime, although Team USA still trailed at 58-44.

After Coach Steve Kerr made adjustments to the lineup, Team USA began chipping away at the deficit. The starters, rejuvenated, took charge in the latter half of the game, with Embiid syncing well with James and Curry—an indication that their gameplay could continue developing under Kerr’s strategy.

Embiid then kicked off the fourth quarter looking better than ever. Moving effectively against screens, he found scoring opportunities through LeBron and Curry’s setups. Although South Sudan kept it close, taking a 100-99 lead late in the game, LeBron’s decisive drive and basket secured Team USA’s win.

Ultimately, Embiid shone with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Looking ahead, Team USA has one final tune-up game against Germany before heading into the Olympics on July 28.
