Sean Kingston and Mother Face Charges in $1 Million Fraud Case

Additional Coverage:

Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, are facing charges of wire fraud, according to an indictment by a Miami federal grand jury. The mother-son duo allegedly defrauded businesses out of more than $1 million by falsely claiming they had made payment transfers for luxury items, including high-end vehicles and jewelry. Each has been charged with five counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which could lead to a sentence of up to 20 years per count.

Prosecutors state that Kingston, legally named Kisean Anderson, and his mother used forged documents to obtain expensive goods without having paid in full. The “Beautiful Girls” singer was released on a $10,000 cash bond, and his mother on a $5,000 bond, with both scheduled to appear in court on August 9.

This isn’t their first encounter with legal issues; the pair were previously arrested on similar charges at the state level earlier this year. Additionally, Kingston is entangled in a civil lawsuit over similar accusations, where he is alleged to use his celebrity status to engage in fraudulent schemes to acquire goods without payment.

Kingston, who rose to fame in 2007 with hits like “Beautiful Girls” and “Take You There,” saw a decline in his musical career post his initial success. His recent works include a collaboration with artists like Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj, and his latest album, “Road to Deliverance,” was released in 2022. His representative has yet to comment on the indictment.
