Beyoncé Endorses Kamala Harris Using ‘Freedom’ as Campaign Song

Additional Coverage:

Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Kamala Harris yet, but she is supporting Harris’ presidential campaign by allowing her to use the song “Freedom” from the “Lemonade” album. This musical endorsement came right after President Joe Biden announced he wouldn’t seek re-election in 2024 and threw his support behind Harris. Beyoncé’s approval for the song’s use in Harris’s campaign was confirmed by CNN just hours before Harris used it during her inaugural campaign speech in Wilmington, Delaware.

Although Beyoncé hasn’t made a formal endorsement, her political inclinations have been evident in the past. She supported the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 through a social media post and was a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Beyoncé also performed at President Obama’s inauguration in 2013. Her mother, Tina Knowles, promptly endorsed Harris, sharing enthusiastic support on Instagram and praising Biden for his decision to support Harris.

At Harris’s campaign launch, her husband Doug Emhoff introduced her before she gave a 20-minute speech emphasizing freedom and the choices facing the country. As her speech concluded, “Freedom” played again, echoing her campaign themes.

Since announcing her candidacy, Harris has received endorsements from various celebrities including Cardi B, Robert De Niro, and Jamie Lee Curtis, highlighting her widespread support in the entertainment community. Additionally, pop star Charli XCX showed her support for Harris in a tweet that quickly went viral.
