In Louisiana, a tragic incident occurred when a 6-month-old boy died after being accidentally left in a hot car for several hours, according to local authorities. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reported that the infant was discovered deceased in the vehicle’s backseat around 5:46 p.m. on Tuesday by one of his parents.
The devastating mistake came to light when the parent, intending to retrieve the baby from daycare after work, realized the child had never been dropped off that morning. On that day, Baton Rouge experienced extreme heat, with the heat index soaring to 112 degrees, intensifying the hazardous conditions inside the car.
The sheriff’s office has stated that an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain how long the child was in the vehicle. Meanwhile, the investigation into the tragic death continues.
Statistics from the national nonprofit organization KidsAndCars.org reveal the broader issue, with at least 16 children having died in similar hot car incidents across the United States so far this year. Records show that since 1990, over 1,100 children have died under such circumstances, and roughly 88% of those were 3 years old or younger.
