Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro Scraps Hamptons Fundraiser as VP Harris Nears Running Mate Decision

Additional Coverage:

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has called off a scheduled fundraising journey to the Hamptons as anticipation mounts over his potential selection as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

A spokesperson for Governor Shapiro confirmed that the trip, which was set a few weeks prior and intended to raise funds for his campaign committee, has been canceled due to a change in his agenda, negating his travel plans for the weekend.

According to CBS News, Shapiro is in the running as a potential vice presidential candidate, having been one of six individuals who discussed the matter with Harris’s vetting team this week. Shapiro is considered a prominent contender, alongside figures such as Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Vice President Harris is slated to announce her choice for a running mate by Monday, and plans to appear with the chosen candidate at their inaugural campaign event in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening. Details regarding the location of this campaign event in Philadelphia remain undisclosed.

Governor Shapiro has been a supporter of Vice President Harris, especially since President Biden withdrew from the 2024 race, which also includes former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance from Ohio. Shapiro himself deflected the question earlier this week when asked if he was aiming to join Harris on the Democratic ticket.

On the subject, Shapiro stated, “The vice president faces a deeply personal decision on who she wants to run with, govern with, and rely on during critical decisions for the country. I trust that she will make her choice independently when the time is right.”
