Tom Cruise is set to perform a breathtaking stunt at the 2024 Paris Olympics’ Closing Ceremony, showcasing his well-known flair for daring feats. According to TMZ, Cruise plans to descend from the Stade de France’s top via rappelling during the event, which transitions to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
This stunt involves Cruise carrying the official Olympic flag down to the field and then features a prerecorded segment where he flies the flag from Paris to Los Angeles. Cruise is then slated to parachute from an airplane, landing near the Hollywood sign, where he will hand over the flag to a group of Olympians parading through Los Angeles. Remarkably, portions of this stunt were filmed in Hollywood early on a Saturday morning in March.
Although preparations in Paris are ongoing and details are still being finalized, there are talks that Cruise might use a stunt double for the rappelling part of the performance.
Tom Cruise, 62, is renowned for his commitment to performing his own movie stunts. He has previously executed significant stunts like a halo jump in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and piloting a fighter jet in “Top Gun: Maverick.” Notably, in “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning,” Cruise carried out a death-defying motorcycle leap off a cliff, following it up with a parachute landing.
Recently, Cruise was also spotted performing stunts while clinging to a plane’s exterior during filming for “Mission: Impossible 8.”
This grand stunt at the Olympics is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
