SAINT-DENIS, France — Sha’Carri Richardson has now competed in the Olympics.

The 24-year-old track sensation ran her first Olympic race on Friday morning, clocking in at 10.94 seconds in the initial heat of the women’s 100 meters.

Starting strong, Richardson surged to the lead midway through the race and maintained a comfortable distance from her competitors, securing a straightforward victory in her heat. This win propels her into the semifinals on Saturday, where she has a shot at advancing to the finals later that evening, potentially earning her first Olympic medal.

“It’s an incredible sensation to participate in the Olympics, to be among these athletes and experience the vibrancy, the immense appreciation for track and field,” Richardson shared in a post-race interview with NBC. She expressed tremendous excitement and eagerness about her Olympic debut.

Post-interview, Richardson was seen moving through the mixed-zone area, beaming and briefly greeting the press with a cheerful “Hi, hello,” opting not to give further comments at that moment.

Richardson typically reserves her remarks for post-final races, and it’s expected she will continue this practice until the 100-meter finals.

Her participation in the Paris Games marks a significant return after her disqualification from the 2021 Tokyo Games, following a positive marijuana test that voided her qualifying results from the U.S. trials that year.

Her teammates, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry, also successfully moved on to the semifinals.
