On Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers unveiled the second of three statues commemorating Hall of Fame icon Kobe Bryant. This latest statue also honors his daughter, Gianna, depicting the two as they appeared sitting courtside at a Lakers game in December 2019. The unveiling took place outside Crypto.com Arena where images of the statue first surfaced.
Adorned with purple and gold flowers, the monument includes a plaque that features a heartfelt quote from Kobe Bryant about his daughter and his pride in being a father to girls. “Gianna is a beast, and she’s better than I was at her age.
She’s got it. Girls are amazing.
I would have five more if I could. I’m a girl dad,” the quote reads.
This statue serves as the second installment in the Bryant Memorial series. The first, unveiled on February 8, 2024 (a nod to Kobe and Gigi’s jersey numbers), captures the moment of Kobe’s legendary 81-point game in 2006.
Visitors have been flocking to the statue, drawn in by the legacy of the basketball great and his daughter. Although there were initial minor errors on the plaques concerning players Jose Calderon and Von Wafer, these have been corrected.
The third and final statue dedicated to Kobe Bryant is scheduled to be revealed in the future.
