- Harris campaign pushes back on claims that Pennsylvania Governor was rejected for VP because of Jewish faith (newsbreak.com)
Kamala Harris’s team has dismissed any claims that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was passed over as her vice presidential candidate due to his Jewish background, labeling these allegations as “ridiculous and offensive.” They stressed that Vice President Harris is committed to fighting antisemitism whenever it arises.
Despite rumors and some criticisms including a controversial comment by former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz questioning if Shapiro’s rejection was due to progressive biases against his faith, Harris announced that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz would be her running mate this Tuesday. Shapiro, a Jewish contender, was also considered a likely choice.
Following the announcement, comments multiplied, including from Maury Litwack of the Orthodox Union who criticized a perceived antisemitic campaign against Shapiro. He emphasized the importance of the Jewish vote in 2024 and condemned any forms of hate speech.
Amid these speculations, a representative for Harris reinforced her strong stance on Israel’s security, particularly pointing out her actions in a recent Situation Room meeting. The spokesperson reiterated her zero tolerance towards antisemitism.
At a rally in Philadelphia introducing Walz, Shapiro fully supported the Democratic ticket. He highlighted his longstanding friendship with Harris and endorsed her leadership skills, while Harris in return acknowledged Shapiro’s leadership and dedication.
The Harris campaign has not yet responded to media inquiries regarding these claims.
