Detective Known for Green River Case Closer to Winning Washington Governorship

Additional Coverage:

In an election year stirring considerable interest, Washington’s familiar attorney general and another candidate, previously a sheriff renowned for his role in the Green River Killer case, have progressed to the final elections in November. The race is drawing attention in a state that’s predominantly Democratic and hasn’t seen an open gubernatorial race in over ten years.

Bob Ferguson, the Democrat who has held the attorney general position since 2013, successfully maneuvered through a crowded primary field. Celebrating his primary win, Ferguson announced on social media, “The general election starts today. Let’s win.”

His opponent in November will be former U.S. Representative Dave Reichert, a Republican. The campaign between Ferguson and Reichert has already been marked by vigorous exchanges.

Following his primary win, Reichert expressed gratitude to his supporters and underscored a readiness for change among the Washington electorate. “Washington voters have sent a message that they are ready for a change,” Reichert commented to CBS affiliate KIRO-TV. “I am thankful to all who voted for me in this primary.”

Reichert is also recognized for his past career as a sheriff where he notably led the pursuit of Gary Ridgway, the infamous Green River Killer. In a grim reminder of Reichert’s past cases, authorities recently confirmed the identification of 16-year-old Tammie Liles and 15-year-old Lori Anne Ratzpotnik as victims of Ridgway. Reichert documented his extensive efforts that spanned two decades in his book “Chasing The Devil.”
