Harris Campaign Raises $540M, Boosted by DNC Donations

Additional Coverage:

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign reported raising a substantial $540 million in its effort to challenge former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

Since President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris, her campaign has experienced a significant influx of donations. This was particularly evident during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Harris, alongside her vice-presidential pick, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, formally received their nominations. According to campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon, a record fundraising peak was reached just after Harris delivered her acceptance speech, marking the campaign’s most successful fundraising hour since its inception.

Despite former President Trump’s strong fundraising abilities, Harris’ campaign has quickly surpassed his efforts since its launch a month ago. While Trump’s team raised $138.7 million in July, Harris exceeded this amount in the first week of her campaign. As of the beginning of August, Trump reported having $327 million available.

The fundraising efforts for Harris encompass contributions to Harris for President, the Democratic National Committee, and various joint fundraising committees.

O’Malley Dillon noted that a significant portion of donations during the convention came from individuals donating for the first time, with young voters and women making up a substantial share of these new contributors. These demographics are seen as vital for Harris’ success in the November elections.

Additionally, the Harris campaign has seen a boost in volunteer activity, with nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts registered during the convention week to support the vice president’s bid.
