Post Malone Dethrones Taylor Swift from No. 1 Spot Amid Mutual Praise

Additional Coverage:

Post Malone has clinched the number one position on the Billboard 200 albums chart, a spot frequently held by Taylor Swift since the release of her album “The Tortured Poets Department” in April. Malone’s country album “F-1 Trillion,” featuring collaborations with Morgan Wallen and Blake Shelton, debuted at the top with 250,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week as of August 22. It marks the second-largest country album debut of 2024, only trailing behind Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter.”

Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” has been bumped to third place, with Chappel Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” taking the second spot. Previously, only Eminem’s “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” had temporarily displaced Swift’s album from the top spot.

Austin Post, better known as Post Malone, worked with Swift on the lead track “Fortnight” from her album. After hearing Malone’s new album on the music video set, Swift lauded his work for its artistic versatility on her Instagram Story. Malone returned the compliments, expressing admiration for Swift’s talent and kindness on his own Instagram.

Despite his success, Malone stated in a New York Times interview that he doesn’t aspire to reach the pop stardom levels of Swift and Beyoncé, citing the immense pressure they face. He’s also worked with Beyoncé, collaborating on the track “Levii’s Jeans” from “Cowboy Carter.” Both artists have enjoyed success in the country genre despite their outsider status.
