Vance Criticizes Harris at Michigan Event, Speaks Behind Bulletproof Glass

Additional Coverage:

Senator JD Vance, the Republican nominee for vice president, addressed an audience from behind bulletproof glass for the first time at his campaign event in Big Rapids, Michigan, on Tuesday. This new security measure resembles those recently adopted at outdoor rallies for former President Donald Trump, who was the target of an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.

Although Vance had previously used bulletproof glass at a North Carolina event, it was a shared appearance with Trump. During his speech at a Michigan farm, he criticized the economic policies of the Biden-Harris administration, specifically attacking what he claimed was the inflation of job growth figures. Vance accused the administration of misleading the public about the state of the economy to mask underlying issues.

In his pointed remarks, Vance alleged a significant discrepancy in job numbers previously boasted by Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, stating, “Somebody stole 818,000 jobs. Did y’all see that?

Where did they go?” He further accused the administration of “cooking the books.”

Vance also commented on Harris’s understanding of her own political stances, suggesting she lacks clarity in her beliefs. Despite Harris laying out her economic agenda earlier this month, Vance pointed to her evolving positions since her 2020 presidential campaign. He criticized her recent speech at the Democratic National Convention, mockingly questioning whether she was acting more like a vice president or a school vice principal.

Speaking to reporters later, Vance dismissed Harris’s cautionary remarks about the consequences of re-electing Trump, labeling them as unconvincing to most Americans and ridiculous for warning voters about choosing the wrong candidate.
