CeeDee Lamb Advocates for New Contract for Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

FRISCO, Texas — CeeDee Lamb, having just secured a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys that could last until 2028, expressed his eagerness for his teammate, quarterback Dak Prescott, to finalize his own future with the team.

Lamb rejoined the team for a light workout on Tuesday evening, shortly after finalizing a $136 million, four-year extension that concluded a lengthy holdout that has been ongoing for months.

Prescott is entering the last year of his $160 million, four-year contract, which was a record for the club when signed in 2021. This comes after Prescott’s most successful season throwing to his top receiver, Lamb, who led the NFL with 135 receptions, accumulating 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Aged 25, Lamb has continuously surpassed his performance each season during his four years in the NFL.

The quarterback has been in intermittent negotiations for a new substantial contract with Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones, as represented by his agent Todd France.

“Our performance together is among the best,” Lamb commented. “I’m confident a deal will be reached soon.

It’s clear that I want Dak to stay, and Jerry does too. We need to resolve this and end all the speculation.”

Lamb himself experienced similar uncertainties for about eight months until his agent, Tory Dandy, confirmed an acceptable deal was in place.

“It was crazy, at one point my agent mentioned things were looking bleak,” Lamb recalled. “But when the offer came through perfectly clear at $34 million a year, I was ready to sign immediately.”

Though this contract didn’t surpass the record for the largest non-quarterback deal in NFL history — a mark set by Justin Jefferson’s $140 million, four-year agreement with Minnesota just a day before Lamb’s holdout began in June — it came very close.

Lamb had avoided team facilities and activities, missing all training sessions and off-season programs. His last presence at the team headquarters was noted in January following a tough playoff loss at home.

He recounted moments during his stand-off when he’d drive past the team facilities in Frisco but would end up just grabbing food nearby instead of entering.

Now, with the deal finalized, Lamb is focusing on preparing for the season opener against Cleveland on September 8, emphasizing the need for actual play, even light contact, to regain his game readiness.

Acknowledging his online reactions during the holdout, Lamb mentioned his light-hearted response to Jones’ comments about feeling no urgency in finalizing the deal. Lamb then noted that after the deal was complete, he and Jones had a serious conversation to ensure all was well moving forward.

“Once everything was resolved, it was just about clearing the air. Now, it’s time for me to focus on playing football again,” Lamb concluded.
