A tragic incident in Dallas late Thursday resulted in the death of one police officer and serious injuries to two others, confirmed authorities. Dallas police had initially responded to calls concerning an officer in trouble in the southern part of the city, shared Dallas Police Department’s communications director Kristin Lowman in a briefing early Friday.

Upon their arrival, the first responders discovered one officer shot inside his patrol car. At the scene, an exchange of gunfire ensued with a suspect, leading to two additional officers being shot, according to Lowman. After the confrontation, the suspect escaped, prompting a chase along Interstate 35E towards Lewisville.

The pursuit culminated when the suspect, armed with a long gun, exited their vehicle and was subsequently shot dead by the police. The three injured officers were rushed to nearby hospitals. The officer discovered in his vehicle succumbed to his wounds, while one of the officers shot during the gunfire is critically wounded with a head injury, and the other, shot in the leg, is in stable condition.

Director Lowman expressed the deep pain the department is experiencing, stating, “Our department is hurting. We are mourning a lost member, have others battling for their lives in the hospital, and we’re collectively grieving. We’re reaching out for the city’s prayers and support during this incredibly difficult time.”

As of now, no motives have been established for the shooting and investigations continue.
