Meredith Gaudreau deeply cherishes memories of her late husband, Johnny Gaudreau, and his close relationship with his brother, Matthew Gaudreau. Through an Instagram post last Saturday, Meredith expressed how inseparable the brothers were, commonly seen together even in large gatherings, reflecting their deep bond despite their distinctly different personalities.

Meredith praised Matthew for his unwavering support and friendship to Johnny, mentioning how he looked up to his younger brother. She gratefully acknowledged Matthew’s role as a loving uncle and godfather to her children, expressing anticipation to reciprocate the care to his son Tripp.

Tragically, Johnny, who was a player for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Matthew were killed on Thursday by a drunk driver while biking in New Jersey. The brothers were aged 31 and 29 respectively, leaving behind grieving families inclusive of their parents, siblings, wives, and Johnny’s children with Meredith—Noa and a younger son. At the time of his death, Matthew and his wife, Madeline Gaudreau, were expecting their first child.

Meredith completed her tribute confident that the brothers would continue to look out for each other, even in the afterlife, vowing to support Madeline and Tripp as they grieved.

The post included multiple photos of Johnny and Matthew, and a tribute from Meredith’s sister-in-law, Madeline, who commented on the brothers’ mutual affection and assured Meredith of her support for her and the kids.

Madeline, struck by grief, expressed her sorrow and disbelief over her husband’s untimely death in her own Instagram message, reflecting on the pain and the void left behind. Despite the heartbreak, she vowed to persevere for their expected son, whom Matthew was excited to father, as evidenced by his active participation during the pregnancy.

Their community has rallied behind Madeline, with a GoFundMe page set up to assist with medical and funeral costs having gathered over $320,000 to aid during this difficult time.
