HOUSTON — As the Houston Texans gear up for their opening game against the Indianapolis Colts, star receiver Stefon Diggs expressed his excitement about working with quarterback C.J. Stroud, describing him as “family.”

Since his trade to the Texans in April, Diggs and Stroud have dedicated significant time together both in training and in developing a personal bond. Their relationship started when they first met at the Pro Bowl in January.

“It’s been a great journey,” Diggs commented. “I view him not just as my quarterback, but as family. I’m with him regardless of the situation.”

Stroud, named the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year, reciprocated the feeling, noting their strong connection that grew from constant practice and open communication about their preferences on the field. This close coordination has resulted in significant improvements in their gameplay.

Both Stroud and Diggs have recently been appointed among the seven team captains for the season, signaling their pivotal roles in the team.

Diggs is entering his tenth year in the NFL and has had remarkable success in transitions, showing promising initial seasons with new quarterbacks in the past. Statistical leaders like Vikings’ Kirk Cousins and Bills’ Josh Allen have benefited from Diggs’ performance boosts after team transitions.

The Texans hold high expectations for the Stroud-Diggs duo, especially after Stroud’s stellar rookie metrics, which included leading the league in several passing categories.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans praised Diggs’ overall impact on the team. “Stefon brings a competitive edge every day that inspires our entire team,” Ryans said, looking forward to seeing this dynamic play out in the regular season.
