Parents of Georgia School Shooting Suspect Abandoned Dogs During Eviction, Landlord Says

Additional Coverage:

Colin Gray appeared in court on Friday to face charges of murder related to a school shooting that his 14-year-old son, Colt, is accused of committing earlier this week.

The Grays, Colt’s parents, have come under intense scrutiny, revealing a history of previous arrests, a troubled marriage, and now Colin’s alleged role in providing the weapon used in the tragedy at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Colin Gray is accused of giving Colt the AR-15-style firearm last Christmas, despite previous FBI inquiries into Colt regarding online threats.

A former landlord recalled a chaotic tenancy with Colin and Marcee Gray, marked by their eventual eviction in 2020. According to the landlord, the couple abandoned their pets and left behind various items, including their wedding photos.

Despite efforts to return the photos, Marcee never responded, and the belongings were eventually discarded. Colin reportedly even forcefully retrieved firearms left behind after locks were changed, which the landlord chose not to pursue legally.

Their landlord expressed shock upon realizing the connection between his former tenants and the recent school shooting, describing their past interactions as unsettling but not entirely surprising given the recent revelations.

Colt Gray, now facing four counts of felony murder and set to be tried as an adult, remains held without bail. Meanwhile, Colin Gray faces multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter and second-degree murder, adding to the family’s mounting legal troubles. Marcee Gray, cooperating with authorities, has not been charged.
