It’s been an exceptional summer for the Davis-Woodhall family.

Hunter Woodhall clinched gold in the men’s 400m T62 at the 2024 Paris Paralympics on Friday, September 6, just weeks after his wife, Tara Davis-Woodhall, secured gold in the women’s long jump at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In a heartwarming moment reminiscent of their earlier celebration, Tara, 25, jumped into Hunter’s arms at the Stade de France last month after her victory. This time, after his race, Hunter, also 25, found Tara trackside and embraced her warmly.

Hunter, who lost both his legs below the knees due to a congenital condition called fibular hemimelia, was also thinking of his late uncle Wyatt, who passed away from cancer in 2021. After crossing the finish line, Hunter removed his paper race number to reveal a tribute on his jersey reading, “Wyatt Woodhall this one’s for you.”

Hunter later told NBC that he was “waiting to wake up,” overwhelmed by his achievement. He praised his support network, saying, “I have the best team in the world. I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Following Tara’s gold-medal performance on August 8, the couple returned home and enjoyed the aftermath of their success. Married in 2022 after meeting at a high school track meet in 2017, they soaked in the moment, though Tara reminded, “We have some work to do,” referring to Hunter’s upcoming competitions.

Hunter was determined to secure his own gold medal, stating, “This has been the most consistent I’ve ever been. I’m the most dialed in I’ve ever been.

And I’m running the best I’ve ever ran. I’m the most fit I’ve ever been.”

He emphasized, “I can’t control what anybody else does, but I can make sure I give it my best effort and do exactly what I can.”

The 2024 Paris Paralympics will wrap up with the closing ceremony on Sunday, September 8.
