In a Sunday interview, former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley criticized Ohio Senator JD Vance’s comments about women, stating that they “are not helpful.”
On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” host Margaret Brennan highlighted Vance’s recent remarks about the head of the most powerful teachers’ union in the country not having children, describing them as offensive to women and potentially damaging to his support among female voters.
Haley agreed, saying, “It’s not helpful.”
Vance, who is currently the GOP vice presidential nominee, has faced significant backlash for his past statements about women. In a 2021 interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Vance controversially claimed that the country was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
He further argued that key Democratic figures like Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lack children, questioning how individuals without a “direct stake” in the country’s future could be in control.
During her CBS interview, Haley emphasized that as a voter, she focuses on substantive issues such as tax cuts, housing affordability, immigration, and national security. She added, “The style is — no, it is not helpful to talk about whether women have children or whether they don’t.”
The Hill has reached out to Vance’s spokesperson for comment.
