Kate Middleton and Prince William Embrace Low-Key Lifestyle During Her Recovery

Additional Coverage:

In May 2021, Prince William and Princess Kate appeared just like any other couple in love as they enjoyed a meal of $10 fish-and-chips from Anstruther Fish Bar, a favorite spot from their St. Andrews university days, in a quaint Scottish fishing village. After their meal, they treated themselves to ice cream and took a leisurely walk around the town, engaging with locals along the way.

Documenting the occasion, Robert Jobson notes in his new book, *Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen*, that there were no official cameras as it was just an “impromptu break” that showcased William and Kate’s down-to-earth nature.

Typically seen in glamorous royal settings, the Prince and Princess of Wales also lead a surprisingly ordinary life. As parents to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, they handle school runs and household chores just like any other family.

They enjoy family game nights, watch movies together, and, when they get some alone time, they often relax with Netflix and takeout. Despite their royal titles, Kate still shops at local supermarkets.

William and Kate gave a glimpse into their personal life with an intimate family video shared on social media on September 9, where Kate announced she had completed chemotherapy treatments for cancer, first revealed in March. Reflecting on the past challenging months, Kate expressed relief and shared how the family weathered the storm.

Shortly before Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, the family moved from Kensington Palace in London to the more private Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom home on the Windsor Castle grounds. According to Jobson, they prefer a hands-on approach without live-in staff. Christopher Andersen, another royal author, highlights that William and Kate personally funded extensive renovations to their cozy home.

Their children attend the nearby Lambrook School, and William and Kate make it a point to do the school run and participate in their kids’ school activities. Their home life is described as lively and filled with the usual family hustle, from kitchen chaos to arguments over car ride music. Kate, an avid cook, involves the children in meal preparations, and they all have assigned chores.

Both William and Kate love the outdoors and often engage their kids in simple activities, such as walks and watching a fire on a rainy day. This appreciation for nature has also aided Kate’s recovery process.

In their downtime, the couple enjoys watching TV shows like *Homeland* and *Game of Thrones*, sharing laughs over their similar sense of humor, which they pass down to their children.

From their early days at St. Andrews to their current family life, William and Kate have strived to remain grounded. Influenced by William’s mother, Princess Diana, they focus on maintaining normalcy for their children through family activities and everyday routines.

As they navigate through Kate’s health recovery, the couple continues to ensure stability for their kids. They recently spent their annual summer holiday at Balmoral Castle with King Charles and Queen Camilla, and now the children are back in school. Through it all, William and Kate remain committed to imparting a grounded and normal life to their children.
